"Catholic school parents fear arrival of Common Core"

"Dave Herman wanted to enroll his daughters in a Catholic elementary school so they could learn in an intimate, traditional setting, where parents had as much input as possible. He found that at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Roseto, where his daughters learned about faith and morality as well as math and English. The girls loved the school, and Herman considered the more than $3,000 annual tuition per student money well spent."

"In a mass for Catholic school principals, teachers and staff Monday, Washington Archbishop Cardinal Donald Wuerl honored educators as they begin the new school year. The mass was held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. In a homily, Wuerl told educators they had a special role, according to a release from the archdiocese."

"Catholic Schools get Voucher Applications"

"Two Wisconsin Rapids-area parochial school systems are among 25 private systems statewide that will participate in the Wisconsin Parental Choice program after garnering among the highest number of voucher applications in the state.


Assumption Catholic Schools received 109 applications — the fifth-highest in the state behind schools in Green Bay, Eau Claire, Appleton and Oshkosh — and Immanuel Lutheran School received 40 applications, coming in at No. 24, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction announced Thursday. Stevens Point Area Catholic Schools and Columbus Catholic Schools in Marshfield also made the cut."
