"Catholic schools raise tuition amidst an enrollment decline"

http://triblive.com/news/adminpage/4675123-74/schools-enrollment-diocese#axzz2f6CZEplr

"Overall enrollment is down and tuition up in the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, Superintendent Michael Latusek said at a news conference on Thursday marking the start of the school year.
The diocese is down about 800 students from last year, he said, when enrollment was about 21,000 in preschool to 12th grade.

Robert L. Paserba, secretary for Catholic education and evangelism, said the decline occurred mainly in elementary schools, where he said families with more than one child might be financially strained to pay for private education.

Tuition for the first child a family enrolls this school year increased about $150 for an elementary student to $3,600 and rose $550 to $9,500 total for a high school student. If a family enrolls more than one child, the district works with the family to lessen the cost for any additional child based on income and other factors."

"After five years of decline, enrollment in Diocese of Palm Beach Catholic schools is slowly rebounding, with steady growth recorded at many schools over the past two years.
Officials credit the improving economy, expanded scholarship opportunities and new technology that impresses parents.

"The economy hit and parents had to reprioritize," said Vikki Delgado, principal of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic School in Delray Beach. "It gave us the opportunity to revamp our program.""

Missed how much?

Sorry if I hadn't been working on this blog lately, but I am doing my part for Catholic Education in the real world. That's where I'm needed. What have you done for us lately?
